RedFox Blog: Hedge Your Bets.

Our Hedgerows are not as familiar sight as they ought to be. Once when I was a small child I did see a lot of them. But now if I go out to the countryside it will be difficult to spot any. I have been shocked to find out that all they have to do is run a bulldozer through the hedge. This is because the farmer needs the bigger field due to the advent of bigger farm machinery and the bigger field yields more crops. But this also destroys natural habitats to which our native birds live on. And it also increase pests. Because they hedgerow has wildlife that kills pests.
But! the hedgerow is making a comeback according to the BBC’s Countryfile Programme. This means that there is room for the hedgerow and the removal should not have happened. If I were a farmer I would encourage this long ago. The hedgerow is not just a home it is a food source to our native wildlife. And the ripping up these natural barriers means that even in the harsh days of winter life stock would have no shelter. But on one estate in the UK all that is changing. The estate is reinstalling new hedgerows so that life stock can now once again shelter.
Lockdown And Mental Health
I have blogged about this before but i want to touch on this again because the UK is going through another although shorter lockdown. The health strains are obvious because there will be a lack of opportunity to take any form of exercise other than running. And if you like getting wet or cold while doing this it is OK. But many do not and stay in doors. This then puts a strain on the mental health of adults as there would be no room to run from a heated discussion. And that usually makes for domestic abuse more likely. And even the person living on their own would have a problem with lockdown.
Lockdown feels as though you have been locked away for no reason. If you had suffered some problem and you can get out and about this would reset the mind. But! with lockdowns there is no such luck. Running away is impossible and getting in a rut about things with the issue whirling around in your head means you will anxious about it and then comes depression. Even though lockdown is very new it means isolation for many. No one to talk to and no reset button to press as all leisure Centre’s and private Gyms have been closed. This means no exercise can be taken if you like indoor activity. I think this is short sighted and the opening of these facilities should be made essential.
