One of the victims of the pandemic are elections. Because of their very nature where many people gather they will become a super spreader event. And that would mean a very sick population. So therefore the 2020 elections were called off. Well this year in the UK they are back with a vengeance. Not only are there the current local elections but also the delayed ones. This means that most areas will have at least three candidates to chose from. And as usual the three main political parties in the UK will be among those that will be contesting them.

Among the issues that will appear on the doorstep will be of course the pandemic and how well the government has handled it. No government in the world saw it coming but the UK government did not react well when it hit. Most opposition leaders agree the UK government could have reacted faster and locked down sooner when the population was threatened. But it didn’t until it was too late. and now the UK has the second highest death rate in the world. It is very sound that the government should have reacted sooner rather later. Will this reflect in voting ? We shall see!

Robotics 28/4/21

And why may you ask are farm machinery shown on a page with the headline Robotics. Well the farming industry is the latest industry trying to make life a little better for farmers by creating self driving farm machinery. I kid you not and actually if you think about it this is very easy. Because GPS has been used in farming for many years and to add something like self driving machinery to the list is actually fairly straight forward. The field is now divided up into blocks and all that has to be done is make the machinery drive in these blocks.

Although of course the furrows within a block would be less straight forwards as machines would not see the furrows and not drive between them. But the principle could mean the farmer driving the tractor there and then letting the tractor just take control to just drive it to the other end of the field. Then a turn comes the farmer then guides the tractor around and then lets go for the drive to end of the field. This would be very possible and I have seen on T.V a demonstration of this happening. But a farmer still would have to drive the tractor to the field because as yet tractors cannot open gates!
