As we have now left the European Union and the single market and! the customs union for the last 5 months. We ask ourselves has anything changed. Well if you live in the UK and holiday in the UK the answer is no. But! if you live in northern Ireland or holiday abroad then the answer is a big yes!. The biggest change that now you have to not only show your passport but have your things searched at all the ports and airports or even at cross channel rail stations as now we are a third country. We are no longer part of Europe so that we have no free movement across Europe.

And there is a border down the Irish sea which means that anything being brought in from the UK as well as any other country. There has to be checks to ensure they live up to the standards of EU. The Government thinking that leaving the EU would be very easy are now finding very hard to get deals that are equal to what we had with the EU. So economically things are not as they seem. And all the goods going out of the UK Are now having checks made on them which makes our goods more expensive. And imports ? well there are no checks and so are very cheap to get.

Ballot time. 4/5/21

May the 6th is the biggest ballot in the history of the UK. There are Scottish parliament elections, Welsh parliament elections, Police and Crime Commissioner elections, Metro Mayor elections and of course County and district council elections. The test of the governments popularity is at stake and that will test the government on many of its policies. There seems to be no denying that this government is still popular and that is unusual for this part of their term. Because eighteen months after a general election you would have thought that this government would decrease in popularity.

The opposition parties though are confident if not an outright win but a slowing down of the support for the Conservatives. The is a by-election going on in the UK parliament constituency of Hartlepool. If the opinion polls are correct and the conservatives do win there. That will show that the country is still divided in its opinion on Brexit and the way forward. Labour has at some time show leadership and the understanding of the people on how to move forward. Conservatives have at some time need to start losing or else there will never be another alternative to the present government.
