RedFox Blog: All Change
Post 854 20/10/24 Well the change of government has happened. After 14 years of Conservative party dominance the labour party has taken over. Because of their learning curve is steep mistakes have happened. The first controversy that has happened is that their leader and prime minister Sir Kier Starmer has accepted free suits and glasses from a Labour peer. The opposition Conservative party kicked up a stink because they were accused of the same thing but the labour party ( when in opposition) held them to account.
However this was very different. The labour government received them from a member of a Labour peer. The conservatives received freebies from very powerful business people who were not members of the conservative party but wanted influence in government. The very influential wanted their corporations given preferential treatment when it came to government contracts. The labour government had no reason for this. Fundamental mistakes but this has painted the Labour Government in a very shade of black.
Also the controversy over Winter Fuel payments for pensioners. The new government has kicked up a storm as the payments were universal. Some well off pensioners using them to go on a weekend holiday. Not really what it should be used for. So now the allowance is more targeted at those that just receive the basic state pension. So the Conservatives are beating the Labour Party with a wooden stick. It was time for a more fairer system and that system will now be in place.
Even though the conservatives believe in campaigning about the move.
